Pakistani’s First Report Corruption Mobile App

The government of Pakistan is trying to make Pakistan a corruption-free country. To fight against the corrupt elements, the Government of Pakistan has recently launched an anti-corruption app. The purpose of this app to allow patriotic citizens to report fraudulent and dishonest activities by the Government employees and higher rank officers. PM Imran Khan has launched the anti-corruption mobile app named “Report Corruption” on International Anti-Corruption Day. PM Imran Khan also motivates youth to participate in exposing the authorities involved in corruption and other fraudulent activities.

PM Imran khan addressing the citizens during the launching ceremony and said: “A country cannot make progress where the rulers are involved in fraudulent activities. A corrupt person is also an enemy of the nation”.

The anti-corruption app was introduced by Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab that is a sub-department of the Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD). The Services & General Administration Department is working under the Government of Punjab. This anti-corruption app will allow a citizen to lodge complaints anonymously. The aim of this app is to transform Pakistan into a transparent & modern nation.

The idea of launching this app is given by the special Assistant of Prime Minister Shahzad Akbar. According to the director of the Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE), their department had received more than 31000 complaints of corruption during the past 16 months (PTI Government). He further told the English daily newspaper that they inquired about 6883 corruption complaints and PKR 179.88 Crore had been recovered. The government has also retrieved the land from illegal corruption worth 127.89 crores PKR.  

Because of the launching of the anti-corruption app, these figures will potentially increase as reporting corruption incidents to become more convenient.

Let’s take a look at how this app works and what are its features.

Features of “Anti Corruption” app

The anti-corruption mobile app is available on Google play store. This app provides its users with an opportunity to report corruption from their homes. The most important feature of this app is you can report the corruption anonymously. This way you can avoid the risk of potential backlash. However, while lodging complains you need to provide the evidence.

Once you downloaded and installed the anti-corruption mobile app, you will see the following four options on the app:

  • Report Corruption
  • Lodge Complaint
  • Trap Raids
  • Track Complaints

The terms itself shows the working of these features. People might confuse the term “trap raids” and its function.

In simple words, the term “trap raids” means catching the accused red-handed. Such raids can be conducted to catch any public servant taking the bribe or committing a similar crime under the anti-corruption laws of Pakistan. However, the presence of an Anti-corruption Establishment officer accompanied by a special judicial magistrate is mandatory for such operations.

How to report Corruption through the anti-corruption app

The anti-corruption mobile app has a user-friendly interface. Anyone can use it easily. It also offers users to upload evidence in the form of photos, videos and documents.

The following four things you can do while using this anti-corruption mobile app:

  • Reporting corruption
  • lodging a complaint with Anti Corruption establishment (ACE)
  • Requesting a trap raid
  • Tracking the status of your complaint

Let’s take a look at how one can report a corruption complaint using this app.

Reporting Corruption

Open the anti-corruption mobile app and click on the “Report Corruption” icon. As shown in the below image:

By doing this you will be directed towards an online form. You need to fill the following information to proceed.

  • Your District
  • National Identity card number
  • Phone number
  • Full name
  • Description or additional details. This step is optional. The description length limit is 500 words.

You will find a red button on the top of the page. You can attack videos; photos and any documental evidence form that option. After that simply press the submit button to proceed with your report.

Lodging a Complaint

Open the anti-corruption mobile app and click on the “Lodge Complaint” icon. As shown in the below image:

In order to proceed further, one needs to fill the form asking for the following information:

  • Your District
  • National Identity card number
  • Phone number
  • Full name
  • Description or additional details. This step is optional. The description length limit is 500 words.

This window will also allow you to attach the evidence in form of videos, photos or documents.

However, this feature allows users to report any corruption anonymously by checking the “hide my Identity” box. You will find this option at the bottom of the page. After checking the box simply press the Yellow submit button to proceed.

Conducting Trap Raids

Open the anti-corruption mobile app and click on the “Trap Raids” icon. As shown in the below image:

In order to proceed further, one needs to fill the form asking for the following information:

  • Your District
  • National Identity card number
  • Phone number
  • Full name
  • Description or additional details. This step is optional. The description length limit is 500 words.

This feature asks similar details except you don’t have to provide any evidence.

All you need to do is to provide the information mentioned above and simply press the submit button. Once you submitted the form, your application goes into the process.

Once a complaint is submitted, an ACE officer is appointed by the Regional director who will work under the supervision of a specially appointed judicial magistrate of the trap raid.

After proceedings of the raid process, the judicial submits a detailed report to the designated ACE officer for further action.

Tracking Complaints

As the icon name shows itself that you can track your report from this feature. All you need to do is to enter the tracking ID that is sent to your mobile number provided by you while lodging a complaint. After entering the tracking ID press the Track Complaint button to learn about the status of your complaint or report using this app.
